Catch
Yeah I know who you remind me of
A girl I think I used to know
Yeah I'd see her when the days got colder
On those days when it felt like snow
You know
I even think that she stared like you
She used to just stand there and stare
And roll her eyes right up to heaven
And make like I just wasn't there
And she used
to fall down a lot
That girl was always falling
Again and again
And I used to sometimes try to catch her
But never even caught her name
And sometimes
we would spend the night
Just rolling about on the floor
And I remember even though it felt soft at the time
I always used to wake up sore...
You know
I even think that she smiled like you
She used to just stand there and smile
And her eyes would go all sort of far away
And stay like that for quite a while
And I remember
she used to fall down a lot
That girl was always falling
Again and again
And I used to sometimes try to catch her
But never even caught her name
Yeah I sometimes
even tried to catch her
But never even caught her name

on 'Catch'...
"It's
about a girl I know who had a particular way of laughing. "I
used to sometimes try to catch her/But never even caught her name"
was poetic license: I did know her name. I also called it "Catch"
because Hansa used to say, You write good songs, but there's never
a catch." (Ponderings About Picture Show Source Unknown)
Did you write the following track with anyone particular in mind?
"No-one anyone would know...". (Cure News 3 - September
1987)
"A girl I think I used to know". (Cure News 13 - August
1992)
"In 1970, aged 10, I fell off my bike and suffered quite severe
concussion; sporadically, over the following 2 years, I suffered fleeting
but intense daytime hallucinations of a girl I called 'Bunny'. In
1972 I flew for the first time; a few minutes after take-off the plane
hit really bad turbulence and I suffered a very violent attack of
nausea and vomiting, along with an incredibly severe headache; after
this event my 'Bunny' visits stopped... In 1984 in nyc jfk airport
whilst waiting to pass through immigration I met a girl who was the
spitting image of 'Bunny'; her 'real' name was Anna; we talked very
briefly... "Catch" is about this chance encounter..."
